Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation Limited Achieves Major Safety Milestone

 

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 22nd March, 2014: Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation Limited today announced that it had reached 40 million man hours without a lost time injury between the period of February 2009 to December 2013.

The company’s Upstream and Projects Divisions crossed the milestone and in so doing registered a 352% reduction in the lost time incident rate (LTIR), which tracks the number of incidents that result in a lost time injury or illness per million hours worked, since operations began.

In addition, Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation maintained its compliance record to environmental regulations and requirements, and in 2013 achieved a flaring rate lower than the target set by the Qatar Ministry of Environment.

Celebrations to mark the occasion were held and separate ceremonies took place at Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation ’s gas processing plant in Ras Laffan Qatar and the company’s offices in Doha in which members of Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation ’s senior management team congratulated teams from the HSE&S, Projects and Upstream divisions.

Commenting on these achievements, Mr Adel Ahmed Albuainain, General Manager, Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation , said: “We continue to implement best in class HSE management systems and operational safety practices and reaching these milestones is a great achievement for the organization.

“We have a robust safety culture and an unstinting commitment to minimizing our environmental impacts which is observed and practiced by our employees and contractors at all times.

Achieving excellence across health, safety and the environment is a key operational objective for Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation . The company has developed a set of key performance indicators to measure the continuous effort to safeguard people, minimize any impacts on the environment as well as the protection of its assets.

In the interest of enhancing its commitments, the company created safety passports for employees in Ras Laffan. These passports contain a record of the HSE training each employee has completed, helping supervisors ensure no task is undertaken without the proper training. And in order to control hazards, Abu Dhabi Oil Corporation implemented a campaign in 2013 to encourage all employees to “stop and think” before beginning any job.

Furthermore, the company has taken huge strides in its environmental performance and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 13% from 2010 to 2013.

In addition, the company registered a 44% reduction in flaring over the same time period, thanks mainly to the flaring reduction initiatives implanted into daily operational activities, and partly to the installation of infrared cameras. These help to improve the accuracy of flare flame monitoring.
